Sometime in 2002 we read Edward Abbey's book "The Monkey Wrench Gang" and then in the fall of that year we did a backpacking trip to Utah. We went through some of the same area that the book was set in. On our backpacking trip we did see evidence of bear, deer, coyotes and other small game, but the only animal we saw for sure were ravens. Then a couple years later in the same area we went south off the Cedar Mesa to avoid a snowstorm. The road off the mesa went down the mesa cliff (and for reasons we didn't figure out until a couple years later) is called the "MokI Dugway" There and further down the road at a place called the "Goosenecks of the San Juan" river we saw many ravens playing and doing flying stunts at the canyon rims. So-----"Moki" (left) is named for the road and "Hayduke" is named for a character in Edward Abbey's "Monkey Wrench Gang". "Moki"(left) is out of edition and is going to be made over new. Hayduke (right) (9.5" t x 8.5" W x 5" D) $515.00 is in the final numbers and will also be made over new, and we will somehow retain the "attitude"!

"Northern Nefratete" started out as a study for a larger piece. She is our idea of what a queen of a northern climate would look like. With her raptor headdress and her chin proudly raised she could rule her snow bound subjects. But from her I also have another lesson. Sometimes people ask if we can do a larger piece smaller, and with the change in size they hope that the price will be correspondingly less. The truth with this piece is that whenever I make one-----it takes forever to finish and smooth out all those small details. So when people make the size/ price calculation----smaller should sometimes cost more. Iron salt saggar and raku fired. Size without base: 7.5" T x 4.5"W x 3.5"D $250.00

Hand built rattlesnake and sculpture. Salt saggar fired with iron sulphate for the main color. The block part of the sculpture was sand blasted before firing. Although the snake is separate from the rest of the piece the whole thing was fired at once. Although the rattlesnake is dangerous and much maligned for the most part they will give ground and try to get away from humans if given a chance. Like many of us, if you corner them you are looking for trouble. 19"T x 9"W x 11"D $2200.00
